Omaha Poker Tip One – Nerves of Steel

In Omaha, having four cards at your disposal brings in a lot of option during game play. It is not uncommon to bet on two cards and end up using a totally different combination at the end to win a pot. This means Omaha is a game of draws and whoever hits the best one usually wins. More than likely there will be big bets that have to be made and called in order to take down a pot. On more than one occasion your nerves will be tested.

Omaha Poker Tip Two – Know the Nuts

With as a diverse game as Omaha and every card changing the winning combinations of the hand, always know what the best possible hand (the nuts) is at any given time. If you are drawing to make your hand make sure you are drawing for the nut hand. In Omaha, hands change fast and you can go from best to worst and worst to best on the flip of a card. Always be aware.

Omaha Poker Tip Three – Don’t Over Value

In Omaha, the value of winning hands tends to be higher than its more popular counterpart Texas Holdem. You will rarely if ever see high card or top pair win a pot and its is much more likely that two pair, a set, or better is going to end up being the winning hand. Remember this before you start raising you top pair or getting overly aggressive with any starting hand.
