Low Hand Ranks

Remember the suits are irrelevant for low hands. A flush or straight is ok for a low poker hand. Aces are always considered low card in a low hand. The value of a five-card low hand starts with the top card, and goes down from there.

Five Low or Wheel: The Five, Four, Three, Deuce and Ace. The lowest low hand.

5 Low Hand Picture

If there is a tie: There is no lower so all Five-high hands split the pot.

6 Low Hand Picture

If there is a tie: The lower second-highest ranking card wins the pot. If needed, the third, fourth and fifth highest cards in the hand can be used to break the tie. Example: 6, 4, 3, 2, A beats 6, 5, 4, 2, A.

Seven Low: Any five unpaired cards with the highest card being a 7.

7 Low Hand Picture

If there is a tie: The same tie breaking procedures as a 6 low hand are used.

Eight Low: Any five unpaired cards with the highest card being an 8.

8 Low Hand Picture

In the event of a tie: The same tie breaking procedures as a 6 low hand are used.

An 8 low is usually the weakest low hand in a game but some games, such as Razz, any low splits the pot. Also an Ace is not required to make a qualifying low hand. A hand can consist of 8-7-4-3-2 but would lose to and low with an Ace.
