Texas Holdem Tip One – Poker Bankroll Management Your poker bankroll is used to identify what limits you can comfortably play. You should always know what you poker bankroll is and have it separate from any other monies you use for your daily activities. You basic rules for poker bankroll management is to have a minimum of 300 big bets for limit play and 30 full buy-ins for no limit play. So if you want to play $1/$2 limit tables your bankroll should be $600. If you want to play $25 No Limit tables, then you should have $750 in you bankroll. Why these amounts? Serious poker players realize that there are fluctuations in your poker game. You can’t win all the time. So these amounts in your poker bankroll will allow for you to weather the bad days. Keep close tabs on the total amount because it will trigger when you are financially able to move up in limits and also trigger when you may need to step down until you recoup enough to continue on your poker journey. Texas Holdem Tip Two – Know your Poker Hands Make sure you know the rankings of poker hands and which hands are better to start with and which are better to be folded. Once you get the basics poker hand rankings memorized, you will want to start to learn how your position at the table can effect what hands have a mathematical advantage over others. This term has become considerably overused but the concept is that a player has become too emotionally involved to make rational decisions and good players will take advantage of that. In this great game of Texas Holdem, if you play long enough, you will win hands you shouldn’t have won and in turn, loose hands you shouldn’t have lost. The key is to stay focused and keep those emotions in check. You cannot get too excited about winning a big hand on the river or to mad for losing one. If you have to, get up and leave the table, the dealer will keep your seat if you are not gone long. Do what you have to do but when you get back and the cards are dealt again, you need to have the same focus you started with. |
